The Roman Villa of Spello In 2005 a chance discovery uncovered a large Roman Imperial villa of twenty assorted rooms just outside the old walls of Spello. Some of the recovered mosaic floors show an extremely high level of design. It now has become the focal point for one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Umbria, Italy.
We make like to daydream about the wealthy Roman inhabitants of the villa, who on a spring day before the era of Christ, walked the same via Consolare as we do today up to the old forum of Spello.
The images are meant to tantalize your senses and maybe you will on a sunny day visit this most remarkable archaeological site in Umbria which is only a stone’s throw from Assisi.
But there is also something very special in the old town. As you walk the alleyways and look up at the old Roman walls you too can discover the magic of why people have come to Spello for two thousand years.
